Aim and Scope
The National Art Exhibition (the Exhibition) is by definition a showcase of contemporary art within the Maltese Islands. It shall be held at St John’s Cavalier from Friday 24th October to Friday 14th November 2025 and is organised exclusively by the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta.
The Exhibition is primarily intended to provide a forum for established artists, as well as for promising new ones, living or connected to Malta, as well as to serve as a source of inspiration, reflection and the joy of everyday life.
The collective is a mirror of the human experience outside a museum setting, and is also intended to help the visiting public understand Malta’s history and culture, our lives and aspirations. Participating artists shall consider this event as an opportunity for national exposure of their work.
The Exhibition’s aim is also to raise funds, and proceeds of the Exhibition shall directly contribute towards the charitable activities of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta, which is duly registered as a Voluntary Organisation (No 1885). Artists are therefore kindly asked to moderate their sale prices as well as offer attractive works that appeal to the discerning art collector.
The terms, conditions and regulations are under the sole and exclusive discretion of the Organising Committee. These may be further updated and qualified during the coming months leading up to the opening of the Exhibition.
The Organising Committee shall be made up of the following panel of ten members –

The members of the Selection Committee are well noted for their contribution to our islands’ artistic heritage and to the visual arts both in Malta and abroad. The Selection Committee’s collective decision in the selection of artists and their works of art is at its sole discretion and shall be final. The Selection Committee shall be made up of the following panel of three members:-

Terms and Conditions
Eligible participants include all artists living or connected to the Maltese islands and who wish to directly contribute towards the charitable activities of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta.
Participating artists will be required to state the selling price for their artwork, which price shall be reasonable, cannot be changed and will be printed in the Exhibition catalogue and online.
Participating artists accept to notify their agreement in writing to donate an agreed percentage of between 40% and 100% of the proceeds received from the sale of their artwork before, during, or within three months after the close of the Exhibition, or where that sale is made as a direct or indirect result of its display in the Exhibition. A formal agreement shall be drawn up to this effect.
A participation fee of €70 is mandatory for all participant artists, which fee shall be waived for those artists who fully donate their artwork. All other artists whose artworks are sold shall also have their participation fee waived. Artists whose artwork has not sold during the Exhibition shall donate this participation fee of €70 towards the charitable causes of the Association on retrieval of their art work after the Exhibition.
All participating artists and their guest shall be invited to the soft opening of the Exhibition scheduled for the evening of Thursday 23th October 2025. Each artist shall be entitled to a complimentary catalogue of the Exhibition after the termination of the said Exhibition.
Participating artists must register their intention to participate, upload high quality definition images of themselves and their artwork, optionally include a brief text description of the artwork, the size, and the sale value and a short curriculum vitae of not more than 100 words, all of which will be used in the page presentation allocated per artist in the Exhibition catalogue, if selected.
Prospective participants shall register online at https://orderofmalta.mt/national-art-exhibition-2025/ confirming their participation and acceptance of the Exhibition Rules & Regulations. The online registration form is split into two sections, with the first section to be submitted by not later than the 28th April. The second section, being the online submission of your artwork, needs to be completed by latest Sunday 1st June. Online submissions after this date will not appear in the printed catalogue.
The Exhibition shall include works by established, upcoming, aspiring and hobby artists. The selection of artists and their works of art is at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee and the Committee’s decision shall be final.
An Exhibition Catalogue shall feature all participating artists in alphabetical order.
In accordance with local anti-money laundering legislation, the Organising Committee shall ensure that all sales shall be in line with such legislation.
None of the artworks submitted must offend the general ethos of the Christian faith, its meaning, ethics and vision. The size of two-dimensional artworks shall be limited to a maximum of 150 cm High x 120 cm Wide. Three-dimensional artworks shall be of a reasonable size.
All sold artworks shall be released to the buyers on Friday 14th November from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm and Saturday 15th November morning between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm, and the sale proceeds shall be collected by the Organising Committee on behalf of the artist. The Organising Committee shall retain the agreed percentage share of the sale price of the artwork as a donation by the participant and the balance shall be remitted to the artist within two weeks of the closing of the Exhibition, but not later than Friday 28th November 2025. A formal receipt will be issued to the participating artist for his or her donation to the Association’s charitable activities.
Participants will guarantee that they are the artist or creator of the artwork that shall be submitted to the Organising Committee. Artworks shall be delivered to Casa Lanfreducci during the week starting Monday 2nd to Friday 6th June 2025 between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm daily. Each submitted artwork shall conform to all applicable health and safety standards and to these regulations. In the case of sculptures and large artworks, detailed photos and dimensions must be sent beforehand online for vetting purposes by latest 6th June. If accepted, these works, together with their accompanying white-in-colour plinths or stands, are to be delivered directly to St John’s Cavalier the week on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21th October from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Later deliveries shall not be accepted.
The Organising Committee reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to deny admission or withdraw an artwork from the Exhibition at any time, if for any reason the artwork, or any circumstances surrounding the display of the artwork, appear to the Organising Committee to expose it and the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta, to potential or actual reputational damage, to the risk of legal proceedings or enforcement including, without limitation, to the actual or alleged breach of third party intellectual property rights.
All two-dimensional artworks submitted must be framed and ready to hang; any artwork that comprises more than one part must be clearly identified as being so.
The selection of artists and their artworks is at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee which will conclude its work by the 20th June, and applicants whose artwork has not been accepted will be informed of their decisions by the secretariat by Friday 27th June 2025.
The Organising Committee shall feature each participant artist, their artwork and its sale price on its website. All adverts and news relating to the event shall also be included thereon.
All artists must adhere to the set deadlines and conditions. These deadlines may be changed during the whole process of preparation of the Exhibition.
All expenses relating to the initial transport of submitted artworks to Casa Lanfreducci are to be borne by the participants.
Insurance of artworks is at the charge of the Organising Committee.
The participating artists agree that the Organising Committee shall be responsible for the whole process of the setting up of the Exhibition and its performance. The said process, in virtue of which responsibility is being excluded, shall include the promotion of the Exhibition, the storage, the installation and the dismantling of all artistic works or any other activity.
Any artworks that have not been sold during the Exhibition are to be removed by the artist against a donation of €70. The artist will arrange for the artwork to be collected from St John’s Cavalier between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm on Saturday 15th and Monday 17th November 2025, and will be responsible for all transportation costs.

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, a Force Majeure Event shall mean an event beyond the reasonable control of the Organising Committee including but not limited to strikes, failure of a utility service or transport network, act of God, terrorism, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction, pandemic or epidemic or any significant resurgence thereof, accident, breakdown of plant or machinery, fire, flood, storm or default of suppliers or subcontractors. The Organising Committee shall not be liable to any participating artists under these Terms and Conditions in the event of a Force Majeure Event.
