Benoit Musy appointed High Representative for all matters relating to Fort St Angelo
The Maltese Association is delighted to announce that H.M.E.H The Prince and Grand Master, Fra’ John Dunlap, after consulting the Sovereign Council has appointed Mr. Benoit Musy, Knight of Grace and Devotion of the Order of Malta and Commander of the Order pro Merito Melitensi, as his High Representative for all matters relating to Fort St Angelo.
In 1998, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Malta and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, pursuant to which the Government of Malta granted to the Sovereign Order the upper part of Fort St Angelo for a period of 99 years. This agreement replaced a prior one, signed in 1991, that concerned the upper part of the Fort, at that time initiating restoration works to be financed by the Sovereign Order. Article 3 of the 1998 agreement clearly states that Fort Saint Angelo, “will be used as a seat from which humanitarian activities of the Order shall be coordinated and from which the Order may exercise its international activities”.
The appointment of Mr. Musy was made in terms of Article 12 of the same agreement.
Born in 1956, Benoit Musy was educated in Switzerland. He is a former Lieutenant of the Swiss army and a former Papal Swiss Guard. In his professional life, he has held several appointments with leading industrial establishments. He has served as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
His grandfather, Jean-Marie Musy, was President of the Swiss Confederation, while his father, Luigi Musy, served as President of the Swiss Association of the Order of Malta. His brother, Jean-Marie Musy is the current Ambassador of the Sovereign Order to the Kingdom of Spain.
Benoit Musy was elected to the Council of the Maltese Association in June of 2024 representing the Third Class.
Previous High Representatives of the Grand Master included the late lamented Venerable Bailiff Fra’ John Edward Critien.
The President, Council and Members of the Maltese Association warmly congratulate Mr. Benoit Musy as he takes up this arduous role at the helm of St. Angelo and augurs him a long and fruitful term of office.
