Reopening of the Jesuit church in Valletta
The Church of the Circumcision of Our Lord, also known as the Church of the Jesuits in Valletta is considered the oldest and largest church built between 1593 and 1609 by the Order of the Jesuits. It was built to house the Collegium Melitense as the college by the Jesuit was then known. Changes were made to it in 1634 after a substantial part of the church were destroyed by an explosion. Eventually the church became known as the Church of the University, located as it is adjacent to the Old University Building.
Following years of restoration, the reopening of the church took place on the 6th of February.
The President of the Maltese Association, Dr Michael Grech, Council and members attended the celebration of this important event. A Pontifical High Mass was said by His Grace the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr Charles Jude Scicluna.
