Ta’ Pinu National Pilgrimage 2025

October 4 2025

In the calendar of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta there are two important events that take place every year, both Pilgrimages, namely that to Lourdes in the first week of May and the Ta’ Pinu National Pilgrimage that takes place in October. Both are the most eloquent expression of one of the charisms of the Order, that of “Obsequium Pauperum” – the Service to the Poor and Sick.  The Hospitaller, Dame Karin Miller, helped by several Members and Volunteers and the administrative staff Casa Lanfreducci, start the organisation of both pilgrimages from weeks in advance.

The Ta’ Pinu National Pilgrimage took place on Saturday, the 4th of October. It brought together over 168 guests from various institutions in Malta and in Gozo, taken care of by over 50 Members of the Order and Volunteers.

Under the watchful eye of Our Lady, a painting depicting the Assumption of the Virgin by Bartolomeo Amadeo Perugino, and under the Tribune covering the altar, designed by Architect Andrea Vassallo, Mass was celebrated by Monsignor Brendan Gatt, Principal Chaplain of the Association, assisted by Monsignor Carmelo Refalo, the new Rector of Ta” Pinu Church and Canon Geoffrey Attard, himself a Magistral Chaplain.

The Lessons were read by Frederick Mifsud Bonnici, the Treasurer of the Association while the bidding prayers were read by Nadya Aquilina. Two of “Our Lords the Sick” presented the Offerings. Dame Helene Zammit, Vice President, at the end of Mass, thanked all those present after reading the Prayer of the Order.

The group photo was taken on the steps of the Church by Daniel Benson Camilleri.

After Mass, everyone was transported to the newly refurbished Villa Ta’ Fiorita in Marsalforn for a good lunch served by the Members and Volunteers.
