Feast of St Ursula

October 21 2024

The Jerosolimitan Nuns of the Church and Monastery of Saint Ursula in Valletta are the direct historical descendants of the Sisters of St John established early in the 12th century.

From humble beginnings under Grand Master Verdala, to the enlargements and rebuilding under Grand Masters De Paule and Nicolas Cottoner  and later Grand Master Pinto, the Nuns have always been considered part of the Order of Malta.

So, it was natural that the Maltese Association, accepted this year, as in previous years, to celebrate with the Nuns the feast of their Patron, Saint Ursula, Virgin and Martyr.

Led by Vice-President Dame Helene Zammit, a number of Members and Dames and volunteers attended Mass, celebrated by Fr  Noel Muscat OFM, main celebrant, assisted by Can David Cilia, Archpriest of the Basilica of St Paul’s Shipwreck in Valletta, Can David Gauci, Archpriest of the Parish of Naxxar, and Can Charles Vella.

The Nuns, led by Prioress Sr Cristina Borg, were the main focus this day, surrounded also by members of their families and friends of the Monastery.

After Mass, the Nuns entertained those present to a reception to end this day of celebration.
