Feast of Blessed Gerard

Blessed Gerard, the founder of the Order of Malta, is celebrated on the 13th of October. Members of the Order, worldwide, come together to give thanks to God for the life of the Blessed Gerard and contemplate about his great faith and lasting achievements. As in previous years, the Maltese Association attended a solemn Mass celebrated by Monsignor Brendan Gatt, the Principal Chaplain to the Order, held at St Ursula Monastery in Valletta.
Members, wearing church robes were led by Dr Michael Grech, President of the Association. Also in attendance were Fra Francis Vassallo, Members of the Council, Dames of the Order and volunteers.
The Jerosolimitan Nuns of St Ursula were also present during Mass.
During his homily, Mgr Gatt recalled the faith and principles that led Blessed Gerard in setting up the Order and urged all members present to reflect on whether they live their lives following the same beliefs as our founding father,
Malta is privileged that the skull of Blessed Gerard is revered in the same church, this having been entrusted by the Order to the Nuns to safeguard it and prayers are constantly said for the future canonisation of our Founder.
