Votive Lamp Pilgrimage to St. Paul’s Grotto

The annual Votive Lamp Pilgrimage to St. Paul’s Grotto in Rabat, was held on Tuesday 15 September at 5:30pm. This year the attendees were limited to conform with the health guidelines regarding the pandemic.
Archpriest Louis Suban officiated the proceedings that commenced in the Sanctuary of St. Publius, during which religious readings and the history of the lamp were recited by the clergy.
The silver votive lamp, in the shape of a Carrack of the Order, was then carried in procession to St. Paul’s Church by members of the Maltese Association of the Order.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Radju Marija, that transmits from Rabat for 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week. On this occasion Radju Marija provided the oil to be burnt in St. Paul’s Grotto for the forthcoming year. Can. Anton Borg, Director of Radju Marija was the main celebrant in the Holy Mass in St. Paul’s Church. He presented the oil and lit the votive lamp after the sermon.
After Mass, the votive lamp was again carried in procession to St Paul’s Grotto where it was hung in front of the statue of St Paul. Prayers were also said in the Grotto, in front of the statue.
Light refreshments were served in the gardens of the Wignacourt Museum after the event.
