September 24 2020

The Blessed Gerard Residence for single migrant mothers and their minor children, a new project of the Maltese Association’s peripheral organisation the Maltese Cross Corps,  was officially inaugurated on Wednesday 23rd September 2020 by His Grace the Archbishop of Malta Mgr. Charles J. Scicluna who blessed the premises at Guardamangia and uncovered the commemorative plaque, in the presence of the First Lady Mrs. Miriam Vella.

In blessing the Residence, His Grace the Archbishop commended the fact that the residence was named after Blessed Gerard, the founder of the Order, on the occasion of the 900th Anniversary of his death.

A brief reception then followed at the Parish Hall of Our Lady of Fatima, at which speeches were delivered by Mr. Saviour Farrugia, Executive Secretary MCC; Mr. Victor Tonna, President MCC; Mgr. Alfred Vella, Director of the Emigrants Commission and His Grace the Archbishop.

In attendance on the part of the Maltese Association were the President Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata, the Hospitaller Dr. Kevin  F. Dingli who represents the Association on the MCC’s executive committee, Communications Officer Mr. Martin Micallef and Council Member Helene Zammit.

The Blessed Gerard Residence is geared up to accommodate 3 single migrant mothers and their minor children, all of whom will be referred by the Emigrants Commission. 2 migrant mothers and their minor children have in fact already set up residence there, and were also in attendance at the inauguration ceremony.
