Support and Development Sessions for the Prison Ministry Group

The first in a series of three Support and Development Sessions for the Prison Ministry Group to be delivered by Psychologist Jenny Zammit was held at Casa Lanfreducci on Tuesday 22 November 2016 at 6.30 p.m.
The event was very well attended by Members and Volunteers participating in the Association’s Prison Ministry.
Ms. Zammit was introduced by the Hospitaller, who briefly outlined the history of this Project which was initiated at the Young Offenders Unit for Rehabilitation Service (YOURS) over six years ago, and has since been transferred to the Corradino Correctional Facility (CCF). Just over a year ago a complementary Female Prison Ministry was also successfully launched.
Ms. Zammit then proceeded to deliver a most captivating talk, emphasising the need for Guidelines to be put in place. A number of most valuable insights on how to handle prison inmates in the various scenarios which may arise were given by this seasoned practitioner with hands on experience in the field, where empathy rather than sympathy should be key.
The mode of delivery was very captivating, and allowed for continuous but orderly interaction on the part of attendees, who all felt that they had greatly benefitted from this long awaited professional guidance in what is considered to be a sensitive but very challenging and rewarding field of engagement.
The Hospitaller thanked Ms. Zammit for having so generously given of her precious time by way of contribution towards the Association’s good works, and also thanked Corinne Dingli and Theresa Zammit Lupi for having taken the initiative to organise these sessions.
We are already looking forward to the nest session.
