The Grand Commander addresses the Maltese Association Members

November 28 2023

The Grand Commander H.E. Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau took advantage of his visit to Malta in company of Fra’ Jean-Louis Mainguy, knight resident designate at Fort St. Angelo, to meet and address members of the Maltese Association at the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta at St. John’s Cavalier in Valletta on Tuesday 28th November 2023 at 5.30 p.m.

H.E. the Ambassador Prince Augusto Ruffo di Calabria extended a warm welcome to all attendees, and proceeded to introduce the Grand Commander.

The President of the Maltese Association Marchesino Daniel de Petri Tesaferrata was then invited to briefly outline the works currently being undertaken by the Association.

In his address, the Grand Commander focussed on the nature of the Order, being a Catholic religious order which is also subject to Canon Law, and vividly illustrated how this impacted the sovereignty of the Order, which is crucially one of functional sovereignty.

The Grand Commander also dealt with the fundamental tuitio fidei and obsequium pauperum charisms of the Order, and analysed the obligations assumed by the three classes of membership within the Order.

The Grand Commander’s address was then followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, in which members had the opportunity of participating.

The evening concluded with some light refreshments, which afforded further opportunity for interaction.
