Infant Jesus of Prague

October 4 2019

The Maltese Association once again celebrated the Feast of the Infant Jesus of Prague. The purpose of this annual event is both to create public awareness and to carry out a public statement of the Maltese Association regarding its commitment to the defence of the rights of the unborn child. At the same time there is emphasis on the Order’s calling to defend the helpless and the defenceless. The liturgical celebrations reflected also the Christian values treasured by the Maltese people in this respect. A number of organisations that are active in this field were invited and participated in this special event.

The celebrations commenced at 6.00 pm, when the statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague was brought out from Casa Lanfreducci to the top of the outside staircase, where Mgr Paul Vella accompanied by Chaplains of the Order said the opening prayer and blessing.

A procession, headed by the standard bearer then proceeded into Merchants Street, turned left down St. John’s Street to St. John’s Co-Cathedral.

Holy Mass in Latin was celebrated by Rev. Mgr. Paul Vella assisted by Mgr Victor Zammit McKeon, visiting chaplains and chaplains of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta.

The Laudate Pueri choir’s singing provided an essential and most impressive aspect to the service. At the end of the Mass, the Chancellor of the Maltese Association, Comm Dr. Michael Grech read the Prayer of the Order. After Mass, the procession turned right down St. John’s Street, left into Republic Street and left on to South Street, back to Casa Lanfreducci.

Refreshments, prepared by members and their spouses, followed at Casa Lanfreducci.
