Verdala Palace Tea Party – 18 September 2018
The Maltese Association very recently held the traditional annual tea party for the Elderly in the airy and spacious grounds of Verdala Palace on 18th September 2018. This unique venue was, as always, made available with the kind permission of H.E. the President of Malta Dr. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, who also attended the event and accompanied by the President of the Association ensured to reserve a kind word and a smile for each and every person in attendance.
We hosted a record number of over 400 special guests and their helpers, hailing from a very wide spread of Church and State residential homes. This year we were very pleased to also include residents from the Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, especially since the Maltese Association is about to launch another ongoing project involving regular visits to residents. A number of past Lourdes patients were also invited.
Holy Mass was celebrated by the Association’s Principal Chaplain, the Very Rev. Mgr. Lawrence Gatt, assisted by Magistral Chaplain the Very Rev. Mgr. Victor Zammit McKeon and the Verdala Palace Chaplain who concelebrated; whilst the Hospitaller provided guitar accompaniment to the sung hymns.
A very good number of members and volunteers once again turned up and rolled up their sleeves for this worthy cause. Our heartfelt thanks go out to them.
Even in spite of the larger number of invitees, we nevertheless experienced a very efficient food and drink distribution, as well as an orderly alighting and boarding of our guests, many of whom were wheelchair bound.
