Film (K)night Social/Fundraising Event

February 19 2014

The Monuments Men

For the fourth consecutive year, the Maltese Association organised a social/fundraising evening for its members at the InterContinental Hotel. Meeting up in a relaxed atmosphere on such events always enhances in a healthy and positive way the membership to strengthen old and new friendships between each other.

A warm welcome speech was addressed to the packed dining hall, by Association President Philip Farrugia Randon, where a selection of delicious pasta dishes and wines were served by the efficient and pleasant staff of the Harruba Restaurant. After supper, before proceeding to watch the film ‘The Monuments Men’, Dr Farrugia Randon drew the raffle prizes comprising a water colour painting donated by Mr Frank Salt, three Globalair Travel vouchers donated by Count Joseph Bugeja Fontani, Chanel toiletries donated by Mr Edward Baker and a book donated by Marquis Nicholas de Piro. Maltese Association succeeded in raising some modest funds, all of which will be put to very good use in our charitable works where we see the face of Our Lord in those who are in need.

Two thumbs up for the movie watched at Eden Cinemas, ‘The Monuments Men’ film making was inspired by Robert Edsel’s book of the same name, which recounted the true story of how a group of museum directors, curators and art historians came together and traveled into Europe to prevent Hitler’s Nazis from destroying key works of art they had stolen. The movie portrayed a remarkable story that has long deserved to be told and if not the masterpiece it could have been, it surely still managed to leave a lasting impression on the audience. By the end of the evening we could see that everyone had a relaxing and wonderful time. Such events also make it possible for Maltese Association to continue working in its mission to support the Underprivileged, the Sick and the Poor.

The Association would like to thank everybody, including helpers and sponsors, for their continued support. We look forward to next year’s Film (K)night event!
