Feast of Blessed Gerard

October 13 2023

In preparation for the World Day of The Order, tomorrow Saturday 14 October, the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta, today celebrated the traditional Holy Mass at St Ursula Monastery in Valletta at 6:30 pm, to commemorate the feast of its founder, Blessed Gerard.

This feast, which is so dear to the Maltese Association, started with a procession from the sacristy to the church, which was led by the President, Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata, together with the members of the clergy and association members.

The Jerosolimitan Nuns of St. Ursula, who are also members of the Order, were all in attendance within the church. They led the congregation with their beautiful singing, under the direction of Mro Mark Agius, to the accompaniment of two young ladies – Charlene Cuschirei playing the organ and Jasmine Aquilina playing the clarinet.

The Principal Chaplain, Fr Brendan Gatt was the main celebrant and gave an excellent homily on Blessed Gerard. Mgr Victor McKeon concelebrated. Fra’ Francis Vassallo also participated in this celebration.

Special prayers were said for the war-torn zones in this most difficult and dangerous time.

The skull of Blessed Gerard is kept and revered on the right side of the main altar in the monastery, and prayers were also said for the canonisation of Blessed Gerard.

At the end of the Mass, the Mother Superior distributed reliquaries of Blessed Gerard to those present.
