Canine SAR Team visit Casa Lanfreducci

September 22 2022

The Council of the Maltese Association invited all members and volunteers within the Association’s Canine SAR Team, lead by Team Leader Steve Micallef, to a Reception at Casa Lanfreducci on the evening of Thursday 22nd September 2022.

The primary objective of this social gathering was to deepen the already excellent relationship which exists between the Association and the Canine SAR Team, as well as to instil in the volunteers a better sense of belonging to the Order of which they now form a most important part. On their part, Council members had the opportunity of mingling with the members and volunteers, obtaining a much better understanding and appreciation of the sterling work being carried out by the Team.

All invitees turned up punctually, proudly sporting their Canine SAR Team uniform which also bears the beloved eight pointed cross of the Order.

They were formally greeted by the Association’s President, Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata, and were then ushered into the Roger de Giorgio Hall where the Reception was held. This happened to be the same venue where the documents setting up the Canine SAR Tear were signed at a formal ceremony.

The Canine SAR Team was founded on the 2nd June 2021. Baroncino Michael Galea Trapani Feriol is the Association’s Representative on the Committee which manages it.

During this short time great progress was achieved in attracting a number of volunteers to join the Team, in holding numerous training sessions and also in securing good media coverage. The Canine SAR Team is undoubtedly today an extremely significant component of the Association’s hospitaller activities.

The Canine SAR Team has various capabilities, including both live victim and cadaver searches, rescue operations and first aid.
