Tons of Clothes and Items Collected by the Order of Malta Distributed in Ghana
It is with great pleasure to show to our volunteers, collaborators and donors some of the photos of the items collected by the Order of Malta Volunteers in Gozo, being distributed in different villages in Ghana. This relief aid project is over two years now and every month carloads of good quality clothes and other items were collected.
Hakim Babangida, one of our main collaborators, has just returned from Ghana and was proud to present us the photos taken in Ghana. All photos show people including children appreciating and receiving the good quality clothes which the Order of Malta Volunteers in Gozo collected after a public request. The auxiliary relief corps of the Order in Gozo intends to keep collecting summer clothes. The Gozitan public is happy to keep supporting these Ghanian missions. Donations to Ghana also included shoes, sandals, toys, stationary and medicines like paracetamol, vitamins and first aid material. Such medicine can be life-saving in such countries.
The Order of Malta will soon make another call for summer clothes and medicine. The medicine collected should have a long shelf life as, sometimes it takes over a month to get the cargo to Accra. In Gozo, Hakim Babangida, Richard Ekufu from the Pentacostal Church of Ghana and Idriss, see that the packed material under the auspices of the Order of Malta, leaves for Accra and then transported to different parts of the country. The Order of Malta Volunteers in Gozo wishes to point out that it had also helped collect similar supplies for Guatemalan and Peruvian missions and sent two truckloads of blankets and jackets to the refugees in detention and open centres in Malta. Apart from goods stored in two different garages, a large amount of the next batch of supplies is currently being stored at the Order of Malta office in St George’s Square in Victoria Gozo.
