Maltese Association Lenten Retreat

22nd – 24th March
Maltese Association had a spiritual treat in March with a three day Lenten Retreat – between 22nd and 24th of March. Two of our members had an extra two days and one other member a further three days as he aspires for the first Class of the Order. We were lucky enough to have as director of the retreat the Reverend Father Edward Farrugia S.J. who is a professor at the Pontifical Institute for Oriental Studies in Rome
Fr. Farrugia took pains to delve into the Code and Book of Regulations of the Order. It so happens that he is also in charge of the so called “Dies Amalphitana”, a meeting which is regularly held in Amalfi, in Southern Italy, where the Knights of St John started as Hospitallers under Blessed Gerard catering for pilgrims in the Holy Land. That activity developed into the Military Hospitaller Order which was so active during the Crusades.
There is no need to emphasise the fruitfulness of the Retreat directed by Fr Farrugia who regaled us with his extraordinary erudition, devotion and simplicity.
The attendance was encouraging. The reaction to the sermons was very positive.
Special thanks go to Comm. Anthony Miceli Demajo, the Spiritual Retreats Coordinator, who had quite a job in collecting the required data in time and have the event run smoothly.
