Malta Post issues a stamp to commemorate the 900th Anniversary of the Bulla

February 15 2013

On 15 February, MaltaPost issued a stamp with the image of Blessed Gerard to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the papal bull dated 15 February 1113, written by Pope Paschal II to Blessed Gerard, founder and superior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.

The first day cover is accompanied with a short account of the bull and the Order of Malta. Any one interested in acquiring this may do so from the MaltaPost site Maltaphilately

The stamp portrays a detail of a painting by the French artist and Knight of Malta, Antoine Favray. The painting, which is exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta, depicts Blessed Gerard receiving a deed of donation from Godfrey de Bouillon, first ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

We are indeed very proud to have this very important landmark of our beloved Order’s history commemorated in such a most fitting manner. Thank you MaltaPost. Well done Maltese Association!
