Collections of clothes and relief supplies for African missions
Recently, the Order of Malta in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council (Gozo), organized a collection of good-quality clothes, toys and material for several Ghanaian missions. Shipments of containers full of relief aid supplies from Malta and Gozo are leaving for Ghana every three months with the respective missions sharing the cost of the container shipment. Ms Manolita Farrugia coordinated the collection in Xaghra. The Director thanked the Mayor, the Council and all the people who contributed generously.
Meanwhile on 19th October, the Archpriest of the Parish of Qala Gozo) together with our collaborator Dr Raymond C. Xerri organized another big collection of material for the same missions. More than five truckloads of supplies were collected. This is an ongoing project headed by the Order of Malta and in the near future a special meeting will be held to see how the logistical efforts are improved.
Other supplies were also selected to be distributed to the Somali and Eritrean refugees residing in Xewkija, Gozo. Over three hundred African refugees are living on the island.
The next container for Ghana is expected to leave by the end of November.
