Members attend for opening of the diocesan cause of Beatification of Fra` Andrew Bertie

Two members Clementine Aveta and Manolita Farrugia led by Director Chris Galea also attended for the Opening of the Cause of Beatification and Canonisation of the Servant of God Fra` Andrew Bertie. Comm Joe D’Amato also joined the group for this Holy Pilgrimage. The group from Malta was lodged at the Domus Internationalis Paulus VI thanks to logistical help from Mgr Paul Vella, Conventual Chaplain of the Order of Malta.

Holy Mass was celebrated at the Basilica of St John Lateran by His Eminence Cardinal Raymond L. Burke, Cardinalis Patronus of the Order of Malta.The Opening Session followed and this was presided by His Eminence Cardinal Agostino Vallini, Cardinal Vicar of Rome on the presence of HMEH Grand Master Fra` Matthew Festing. The Servant of God Fra` Andrew Bertie loved the Maltese Islands, where he spent time in his parents’ palace in Attard. He took particular interest in the Hospitaller works of the Order in Gozo and visited the Holy Shrine of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu several times.

In Rome, the Volunteers also visited several places of interest including Palazzo Malta and the Medical Centre of the Order in the same area.
