Distribution of Relief Aid and clothes in Ghana

Last December, a large quantity of good-quality clothes collected by our volunteers and Ghanaian residents in Gozo, was distributed in Ghana.

Mr Ali Altipaga who was carrying out this relief operation on behalf of the Order of Malta Volunteer in Gozo, returned back from Ghana last week and has given us a report and photos of the assistance he gave in one of the poorest region of the country. The goods collected in Gozo were shipped over to Accra in November, 2014 and after customs clearance, the cargo was transferred by truck to Paga. In this town, the Chief of the area greeted Mr Altipaga in front of one of the Christian churches. The clothes, bedsheets and blankets were distributed to the poor people who assembled outside. One could also notice the joy of the children as one should note that they liked the jeanswear that the Gozitan and Maltese people sent.

Paga is the capital of Kassena Nankana West District, a district in the Upper East region of north Ghana. The town is lacated on the border of Burkina Faso. The entire population of Paga – including its outskirts is over 100,000 inhabitants. Most of the people are farmers of the Kassena ethnic group. paga is one of the most poor areas of the country and the clothes and material donated to this Ghanaian mission were distributed in a single day.
