Commemorating Blessed Charles of Austria

The Order of Malta volunteers led by the Director of the corps were invited to attend for the Mass organised by the Blessed Charles League of Prayer among Nations.

Mass was held at Xaghra Basilica and it was celebrated by Mgr Carmelo Refalo. The volunteer corps of the Order in Gozo thanked Mr Dennis Mifsud who organised the function. The saintly Emperor was also a Grand Cross of the Order of Malta and was widely respected for working for peace during the First World War. He died in exile in Madeira.

Collections of clothes and relief supplies for African missions

Recently, the Order of Malta in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council (Gozo), organized a collection of good-quality clothes, toys and material for several Ghanaian missions. Shipments of containers full of relief aid supplies from Malta and Gozo are leaving for Ghana every three months with the respective missions sharing the cost of the container shipment. Ms Manolita Farrugia coordinated the collection in Xaghra. The Director thanked the Mayor, the Council and all the people who contributed generously.

Meanwhile on 19th October, the Archpriest of the Parish of Qala Gozo) together with our collaborator Dr Raymond C. Xerri organized another big collection of material for the same missions. More than five truckloads of supplies were collected. This is an ongoing project headed by the Order of Malta and in the near future a special meeting will be held to see how the logistical efforts are improved.

Anglican Community in Gozo assists in Order of Malta relief aid

The Anglican Community in Gozo has contributed once again to the needy families and refugees in Gozo. For this year’s Harvest Festival, the community asked its members to contribute food supplies for the relief aid operations conducted by the Order of Malta. After Wednesday Service at the Seminary chapel in Victoria, Ms Carole McLaren, the Church Warden presented the supplies to Chris Galea from the Order of Malta Volunteers in Gozo. Other items donated regularly included clothing, shoes and educational material.

Chris Galea thanked the Anglican Community in Gozo for their continuous assistance for the past three years. He also saluted Ms Carole McLaren who will soon leave back to England. The Order of Malta in Gozo is currently assisting several needy families of different creed and from different countries.
