Shelter for Migrant Single Mothers and Children

November 22 2019

The Hospitaller Dr. Kevin F. Dingli held a meeting at Casa Lanfreducci  on Friday 22 November 2019 with officials from Malteser Hilfsdienst, Paderborn, namely Mr. Volker Horenkamp and Ms. Jana Worseg, as well as with officials from the Maltese Association’s peripheral organisation the Maltese Cross Corps, namely Mr. Saviour Farrugia and Mr. Victor Tonna.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a proposal by the Maltese Cross Corps to set up a Shelter for up to 4 migrant single mothers and their minor children at their premises in G’Mangia, which are to be refurbished for the purpose, also with the backing of Malteser Hilfsdienst.

The Project would not be limited to simply providing accomodation, but would also extend to education and integration.

The Project, which is being encouraged by the Association, has also received the support of the Emigrant’s Commission, which would also be taking an active role in sourcing the appropriate beneficiaries and in following up on their welfare.

The Malteser officials were in fact here on a fact finding mission, and they also had the opportunity of meeting with representatives of the Emigrants Commission.

Our friends at the Maltese Cross Corps made every effort to welcome, support and entertain Mr. Horenkamp and Ms. Volker on this visit, and thanks are also due to His Excellency the Ambassador Prince Augusto Ruffo Di Calabria for making the Order’s Embassy available for a visit.

We augur the Maltese Cross Corps every success in this venture.
